Why Choose Learning Tree?

Our Preschool Philosophy

We utilize a mixed age group philosophy at Learning Tree. Mixed age grouping provides the younger children with many role models who have already mastered the academic and social skills they are working on. The older students have an opportunity to become leaders as they mentor the younger children. Another advantage of mixed age classes is the increased time a child will stay with the same teacher and class. This means teachers have a better idea of each child’s strengths and needs and a better understanding of how to work effectively with them.

We have partnered with Granite School District for many years to provide our preschool children with the very best program possible. They have provided us with hundreds of hours of Professional Development for both our classroom staff and our management team. Based on what we have learned from them, we have a robust curriculum that prepares the children for kindergarten and focuses on the curriculum areas of Oral Language, Phonological Awareness, Alphabet Knowledge, Writing, Book Knowledge/Print Awareness, Math, Science, and Social Skills. Each of these areas has been further developed into a list of the Essential Preschool Skills by Granite School District and we have written lesson plans that explicitly teach these skills.

Another aspect of this program is the number of opportunities for both whole group and small group instruction. With our program, each classroom has 4 whole groups and 1 small group learning activity each morning. Rather than worksheets, our program focuses on hands-on and interactive learning that can be modified to each child’s abilities and needs.

In order to monitor progress, Learning Tree assesses the academic skills of children three times per year. We will provide families with a copy of their children’s scores and go over what they mean during our Parent Teacher Conferences. These results also assist us in planning effectively for optimal learning.
